Where floaters fly to compete and connect

Whether you’re carving up the dunes at Rainbow Beach, gliding through the crisp skies of Eaglehawk Neck, or circling in smooth thermals over Manilla in your floater, this comp is calling your name! Join us in March 2026 for the Forbes Floater Festival — a fun and friendly cross-country competition for floater pilots, and a great introduction to XC flying for those entering their first competition, all set in the mellow autumn conditions Forbes has to offer, under the watchful eye of seasoned XC pros.

When:
Friday 13th – Monday 16th March
3 days of XC competition flying Friday, Saturday and Sunday
With Monday a potential spot landing contest!

Towing:
Tow and site fees: Pay as you go
1000’ Tow $25
2000’ Tow $50

Practice: Practice tows will also be available from 4pm on Thursday afternoon

Cost: $200 entry fee (payment options)

Includes 3 home cooked dinners at the Aeroclub with prizes and trophies
Morning briefing: Weather forecasts and interpretation, task and task strategy, fun awards 
Evening briefing:  Task Debrief, thermaling, flying XC, instruments, and Q&A, prizes 

Numbers: Limited to 30 pilots maximum

What you need:

  • Single Surface Hang Glider (well maintained!)
  • Harness (well maintained)
  • GPS or GPS/vario
  • Tow release and bridle
  • Recently repacked parachute
  • Helmet
  • Current SAFA membership
  • VHF Rating and equipment (more info)
  • Aerotow Rating

Camping: Camping is available at the airport $10 per night per person.
